Look for the signs

12 days and easier than I first thought although still hard when having alcohol but need to stay focussed on the long term and not give in to short term impulses. Wanted to quit for a while but it was never "the right time" yes after Xmas no will do it New Year's Day but then going on holiday ect ect ect" . Well my "sign" came 1 night when I popped up the shop to get a pack of ciggies and for some reason they had closed 1/2 hr earlier than usual so I thought I would just drive to the local 24hr servo but when I tried to use my debit card the machine would not accept it, I even stood there in a desperate state and made them try it 4 times - what would I do for the rest of the night without my ciggies. But then it hit me that all this happened as my sign that now was the right time to get rid of the filthy things once and for all. Next day on went the patch and in went the gum.

Cold Turkey never hurt anyone. So good to put that full stop into a habit that may kill. Take solace and encouragement from others on this site and power from your own determination because if you are relying on NRT or others it may just not happen. Took me a while to realise that. No one will carry you over the finish line. Power to you if you do it. I will never forget that Saturday morning when I sat here googling Quit sites and stumbled across the one. Some fellow named Big John suggested calling the craving "Margaret Thatcher". Never looked back. Hope you find what works for you and sends you into overdrive...
