3 Years on

I am delighted that I am 3 years on and a confirmed non smoker. I don't think about smoking any more and cannot stand the smell of nicotine on anyone. I have to say that I don't like the "set a quit date" system. I found I would panic as I was approaching it. I think you know when you are ready to stop. I felt unwell and felt sick when I tried to smoke so on that day I decided that was the day to give up. I took all my coats to the dry cleaner to get rid of the nicotine smell and washed everything else and also valeted the car. If your 'head is in gear' its not as difficult as you have convinced yourself. Use reverse psychology like I do and don't tell yourself 'I could murder a cigarette but I can't have one'. Tell yourself 'I haven't smoked today and I feel proud of myself and I don't want a cigarette'. One day then becomes 2 and before you know it you are weeks down the road. I smoked 20 a day for at least 20 years and would never ever start again now. I have more energy and can do exercise without getting as out of breath as I used to. I also have more money in my bank account! You will know when the time is right for you so go for it and good luck - being smoke free is a great feeling.

Hi Bluebird. Always good to hear from those who have lasted a considerable distance. So agree with everything you have said. The day I decided to quit was the best day ever. Nearly 2 years later I applaud my effort and am forever grateful for the support received on this site.

Wow, well done, I am now over a year at 481 days, nearly got to 500. Bluebird and Lia you must inspire others with your posts. Everyone who gives up is a winner so always keep trying because eventually you will succeed.
