Run your own race

I have been reading posts tonight's, just catching up on our 'Nictone free world' and I think it needs to be mentioned that anyway you choose to quit is ok. It's no better to be using a NRT than Champix or believing that going Cold Turkey is the ultimate and toughest way to go. It's all down to each individual and what suits each person and their lifestyle. 'Run YOUR OWN race' (As I have heard Olympians say). We all have the same destination, if you run there in black shorts, green shorts or a pink polka dot dress it doesn't matter- it's simply about getting there full stop.
Best of luck.

Hi Cranky76. And it doesn't matter if one falls over or face plants along the way. As long as one gets up, sees it for what it is, dusts oneself off and gets back on track. 16 years ago I gave up for 3 months. For the next 14 and a bit years I rewarded myself for this amazing accomplishment. 656 days ago I had had enough rewards and my Credit card was suffering because of the need to work harder for the bank debt... Good to see there are other long distance runners still in the race to succeed. Power to us all, wherever we are in the "race".

Hi Cranky. Thank God we are all different and as such each of us will find our own way. Great to see a survivor such as yourself getting stronger and stronger.

Hiya Cranky!
This was the post I read before I went to bed last night and absolutely loved it! I totally agree with everything you have said and it is a very positive and inspiring post in many ways.
It provides encouragement for those who have decided to "Cut down to quit", on NRT, Champix or Cold Turkey.
Each and every one of us is an individual and some methods work for some and not for others. That is SO important for people to remember. For example, I would love to be able to be on Champix but I can't because it would interfere with medication I am taking. I used the cut down to quit method and so far am about to hit my first week smoke free tonight!!!
I will be honest and say that I joined when I decided to cut down to quit and you were very encouraging then, but then I received another opinion and it just made me feel like not posting.
I only decided to start posting again when I was day 3 (I think) smoke free.
I see people who are trying to quit, have just quit or are now officially classified as non-smokers because they have hit the one year mark.
I think anyone trying to do SOMETHING is way way better than doing nothing at all.
I'll do my best to support anyone on here trying to give it a crack!
Take care x

Oh Lia, you make me laugh - yep falling over, face planting and getting back up even crawling to get over that line is totally acceptable too.
Dobbin - I would love to meet you one day, your posts have been the ones that kept me going in those early times.
Red 67 - Please don't think I'm criticizing you - I'm not judging anyone nor will I. I'm simply letting everyone know their way is Ok.
Kim - that was such a lovely message and thank you. Its really nice to know that I can too help and support someone in those tough early stages. I have no doubt you will kick some serious ass!

Hi Cranky. Good to meet but the other side of the world just now. This forum is just the medicine for helping quitters. All in the life raft together and taking turns to row the boat.
