Yup. I quit 100 days ago after 10 years of smoking a packet a day.

Impressive? NO. It's not. Here's why.

Because quitting smoking was so much easier than I ever imagined. It was in the end a simple task of application and mind games. It was a piece of cake, now I am going to say something that may put some people off side, sorry if you don't like it.

I reckon that a lot of people ( myself included ) when we are smokers, act like pathetic children when we convince ourselves how hard it is to quit.

I'd like to say to my (past) self and to all of those people browsing that are trying to get inspiration to quit..... HARDEN UP you babies , quitting smoking is so much easier than you have convinced yourself it to be.

Also a shout out to all those I see in the forums whining and complaining about how hard it is for them during their quit experience. I say to them, REALLY? Are you that pathetic.

I remind you, I was pathetic too for many years presuming it was a hard thing to quit smoking, it's not, it's not really.

Wow, that's quite a post there shueardm. First of all well done on the 100 days. I think it's wise to understand that each person is different and from all walks of life. There are people on here who suffer massive anxiety, depression, have some very difficult things going on in their lives and smoking is the 'go to' when they're stressed. If you have turned to smoking as your escape for over 20 years it doesn't turn off in 100 days. If you suffer any mental health issues they can get more severe when quitting an addiction. Telling people to harden up is extremely harsh when these people are probably facing so much more than can be imagined and then they are quitting smoking as well. This site is for people to rant, rave, to brag and to get advice, not to put them down. It's good to be honest but also important to be understanding in that we handle things differently.

Shueardm...congrats on your 100 days yes it a great achievement after 10 years and a packet a day smoker.....if it was that easy for you to give up you should of done it 10 years ago....

I don't and many others on this journey of quitting and trying to stay quit, don't like to be

belittled, " pathetic" "harden up you babies"...

Myself and other readers or posters come here to (icanquit) express ourselves, to give encouragement, self esteem positives to others,

If I was just joining this Forum and your post was the 1st one I came across I would of signed out straight away, there was nothing positive about your comment if I had been a new quitter, I would of thought this Forum is definitely not for me...

We all come from different walks of life that make up this forum...so as this group has many different stages of quitting, some are still thinking about quitting...then you have the early stages...middle stages, and like myself and a few others have achieved a longer time, but still look for encouragement of positives..and we can also pass on our experiences to others without the others being "belittled".

Please take heed of what Cranky76. He/she can put words together better than I.

My post is for those people who need to hear it this way.

Everyone is different, some don't need the holding of the hand method.

I mean no harm, I stand by my comments

This is my first time on. I knew as soon as I seen smoked for ten years, we are not in the same ball park, today is my 66th day quite, but I smoked for 47 years. I don't think you are even that old and you have a normal to go back to. I don't have a normal if not smoking. I started smoking as a child. I knew you didn't know what you were talking about.

I'm sorry, but although I think the post was quite harsh, I tend to agree with the point being made. Only because I've been thinking lately that I'm allowing myself to believe it's harder than it actually is, or should be. I may be wrong, I don't know...it's very early days for me. I don't think the intention was to belittle or disencourage people, it was just worded wrong. It may be that some people do actually need to hear what he said, and may find it helpful, but definitely not for everybody.
