Here we go again!

I am on day 3 of my second attempt to give up smoking! The last time I was off for just over 5 years but then was offered one and in a moment of weakness and drunkenness, accepted and that started me back down the slippery slope.
My words of wisdom would have to be never ever think "its okay, just one wont hurt" Take it from me it will. Giving up smoking is a lifelong commitment and I believe that once you're a smoker you are always a smoker, if you stop then you are a smoker who is choosing not to smoke. This might seem negative but fore armed is fore warned.
I have used Champix for both my attempts to stop and I have to say they certainly make it a lot easier. Just remember that every day you get through is another day closer to the time you wont even think about having a smoke.
Good luck to everyone starting this journey...

Hi Andyg. What a good reminder for me. I am over 600 days smoke free but rarely a week goes by when I don't remind myself how easily I could slip back to a $235 a week habit / addiction. You just confirmed my worst fears. I am sure the memory of a smoked cigarette can only fuel the desire for another and another ... Once a smoker, always a smoker. Just have the option of weakening or not.

Hi Lia - well done on being over 600 days smoke free. I hope my post wasn't too doom and gloom! I just don't want people to fall into the same trap as me, thinking I could never smoke again. On a positive note for those just starting out, it does get way easier just stick with it.

Hi Andyg. I know I could start again at the drop of a hat... Being warned and reassured by your post that the road is a long one is really appreciated. Don't want to go back there.

I am a smoker who doesn't smoke anymore, and very much don't want to smoke anymore, but......
that Nicotine Devil is just waiting for me to slip up and I will be straight back at the starting line again going through the hard yards to be smoke free....
So yes....for the rest of my lucid living days, I will constantly remind myself....I am a smoker, who doesn't smoke anymore..
We all know that giving up the habit has been a hard slog, but well worth it in the end...
but I liken it to getting your Drivers License,......getting your license was easy....keeping it is the hardest.
