Had to get off the Champix

Hi All
I posted last week after starting Champix for the 4th time.
nd up having a very bad reaction to it, getting very very depressed and constant ringing in my ears.
So stopped taking the drug and have decided to go with doing the full NRT patches course.
1st week into my pre quit ones and going well.
Have already cut down from 20 a day to 5 - 10(if having a wine)
I know I have to quit for the sake of my kids and me but I really struggle with the idea of how you don't smoke in social occasions. This has always been my breaking point.
I put off quitting if I have a big social event on or my mind is set on quitting and then my brain runs off to "what about that event coming up, how do I not smoke"
On the upside no one or barely anyone in my group of friends smoke so at least that takes away temptation.
Anywho just wanted to get the thoughts out of my head.
Hope everyone is staying strong

Hi Clare,
Sounds that Champix was nothing for you... Me personally, I do not believe in cutting down smokes. Or lets say it like this, I am honest, I am an addict, when I start smoking I smoke within some weeks again a full package.. So well, everyone his thing, but if you are similar than me, you have to stop fully.....I fully understand the worry of social gathering. It was one of my main arguments not to stop!!! And honestly, I have to say retrospectivley that it was not a good argument at all..
What really helped my mindset was taking one day at the time.. So, I am not going to smoke today... and the next day and the next day... and not bothering about a social event coming in 1 month time... Actually the cravings got so much less, that the social event turned out less bad without smoking than expected.. but that was something I could not imagine when I stopped.
So well, stay strong and join us on the path of non smoking.. Its really, really worth it...
