Hi, my name is Steve. A question for people who have used campix. I am on day 5 and still smoking. Does the urge to smoke lessen as you go into your second week? I am a heavy smoker about 40 a day.

Hi Steve. Well done on taking the steps to quit. I have been quit for about 8 months now and I also used Champix, however I was a light smoker but I found that I was smoking around the same amount at day 5 but not enjoying them and felt they tasted different and awful. It was somewhere after the 1st week when I noticed I wasnt smoking as much...less and less per day. For the record, I didnt have a quit date...I just got up one morning, lit my usual cig, took a few puffs and promptly butted it out as it tasted bloody foul and i just knew i didnt really want or need it..it was the damn habit! So that was my last cig smoked ever and it was around the 2 week mark of taking Champix. It may take longer for you but that doesnt matter..keep it up and stay positive. Good luck and happy to answer any other questions.

Hi Flora, thanks for sharing your experiences and encouragement. I have noticed that when i reached for a smoke i'm hesitating and questioning whether i need it. Thanks for the help.

Hi Steve,

If you're hesitating then stop. I have tried Champix twice and I found the first time that if I smoked anyway then by the second week the urge to stop went away completely and they didn't help me at all.

This time (I'm on day 161) I stopped without planning a day, just when i found myself hesitating and not really craving one. I find this better than being anxious about "the"approaching day.

Hi Steve..hope today was a better day than yesterday...I have no answers for you about Champix as I went cold turkey......

But i wish you well on your endeavours.

Hi Steve, am using Champix and on Day 55 now, I was still smoking up till day 10, I found it really difficult to let go of smoking and I am a light smoker! The first two weeks were harder and difficult and then by week 3/4 I felt so much better about it all, have had 2 slip ups and regretted them instantly, now I am on a home run to completely quitting, my mentality is don't even have that one fag some one offers you, and you will be fine. I think about smoking a lot still but that is slowly going, am looking forward to the day I don't think about it!
