Hi Guys, I have a question for you all.

I am approaching my quit date on 30/11 and I am worried about smoking in the car, its a major trigger for me.

I just love driving and smoking.

Any tips for me?

Thanks

Hi Heartstarter, what particularly deterred me from smoking in my car before quitting were firstly the leather upholstery and secondly the stench that non smoking passengers of mine would have to bear. So, yes i did quite a few smoko stops especially on long trips. Smoking whilst driving can also be dangerous with ash flying all over you and making your car all ashy especially in the rear. Any way it is your business, just trying to help. Also, the smell never goes, i know cause been in friends' cars who are smokers.

Hi Heartstarter. I smoked in all my vehicles. My convertible I had for 16 years and sold 10 yeArs ago looked like an ashtray on wheels. I will never forget how I trashed that car with nicotine stains. For the past 10 years I have banned all nicotine, food and caffeine from my much pricier set of wheels. Stuck to the plan and for the past 18 months this has not been a problem since I quit cold turkey. So what is your plan?

I can fully understand your worry, I had the same issue myself. When I first quit, I stopped doing long drives, I changed any plans I had because I knew I would struggle. I had to make changes to a lot of areas of my life, for the first month or so, till I became stronger with the no smoking. If I HAD to go anywhere in the car I had lollipops, water and some kickass music that I could sing along to at the top of my (more healthy) lungs. Lollipops also make a great pretend microphone.

Good luck, you can do it you just have to really want to do it.

Hi heartstarter,

I'm a big fan of chuppa chups - they work wonders in the car. My partner still smokes in our car (with me in it but I don't mind) as we love long drives but chuppa chups are amazing to reach for when I have a crave - and they last for a long time too

Also, they go great with drinking too ;o)

Hi heart starter

I was given the suggestion of putting the smokes in the boot where I would have to stop to get them and that wont be easy on the expressways I have to travel. As I haven't put it to the test yet just doing short trips at this stage to avoid the temptation till I am stronger. I wish you luck with the strategy you find and I am going to take up the lolly-pop idea . Let us know how you go.

I know how you feel Heart Starter. I love smoking in the car too. Recently bought a new car and even though I knew I shouldn't, I bought a portable ashtray and smoked in my new car. Not happy about it, but I did. Not anymore though.....clean car, no ashtray and hopefully my smoking in the car wasn't long enough for anybody to notice any cigarette smells in my car. I always carry an e-cig in my bag and also keep one in the car. I don't use them very much at all, but if I do just a couple of puffs of nico free vapour seems to do the trick. Not for everybody, but they work for me, especially in the beginning.
