Reading some posts from those struggling here reminds me of my own struggles early doors.

I know I ate bags and bags of toffee eclairs and really strong sweet coffee. It was like wanting something to get into my brain and scratch it. Toffees and coffee seemed to help as did taking really deep breaths when the cravings were full on.

I had warned my wife that I may be edgy for a while and surprisingly she didn't react when I was.

After a while the fact that I hadn't smoked for a couple of months really helped to focus.

I gained a stone in weight quickly but didnt care.

I am now 423 days away from my last cigarette and never ever thought this would be possible.

There is an equation for all the pain and trials it takes to quit and that is = Self respect : vastly improved health : respect of others : $$$$$$$s better off : socially more acceptable : no more stinky clothes : better smelling breath : longer life expectation : not being owned by nicotine : The list goes on and on.

Hi Dobin. I know I am a quit buddy of yours and you and others help me stay on the straight and narrow. 523 days. 100 days harder than what Dobbin is going through. Just joking. To anyone else reading this, it does not necessarily get easier nor is it a competition. Importantly IT IS SO NOT A COMPETITION. At no stage is someone beating someone else. At any stage the wheels can fall off and it is back to the beginning. It is just a matter of how far one falls or how determined one is to survive the horrors of the nicotine addiction. Those that stay for the journey are few and far between. Just shows that quitters need a good answer to the craving the rear their ugly and relentless heads whenever the guard is down.

Hey Lia. It is a privilidge to be a quit buddy and you and others have been the difference between quitting or regressing. It is so important to stay close to the icanquit site and to keep posting posting posting. Even when you don't really want to.

The symbiotic encouragement is so important for all of us and can prove to be the catalyst for success.

Hi Dobbin,

Can't agree with you more. I too read the posts by those expeiencing difficulty in th quest to start the journey on this site screaming out for help, etc. Seems many are depending on Champix to work miracles. Me, I could not stand the thought of the drug because of the reviews I read having researched the side effects. I wanted to live... I didn't want to experience the likelihood of the warnings taking effect. You and I know that lots of those who started out with us, give or take a few 100 days, have simply disappeared. A long time ago I posted as a result of research that less than 6% would succeed. Th further we get from day 1, the easier it would be to regress. The stayers really must keep encouraging fellow quitters. We know we are never truly safe. I owe my success to those like you who have consistently egged me on... THANKS.
