Keep on keeping in

Having given up smoking now for 411 days I can vouch that it has been an extremely difficult but rewarding journey.
In 2008 I had three heart stents from narrowed arteries. I carried on smoking despite telling my wife and 2 sons that I would never smoke again.
Am I a liar. No. The addiction to nicotine was that strong that I never ever prepared myself for such a battle. I had previously made numerous attempts to quit
This time I knew I had run out of opportunities as I was 67 and my wife recently had had by pass surgery. She detested smoking and from her perspective she was right.
Thanks icanquit for all the assistance you and the fellow posters have given.
Never ever give up giving up. Please those that were doing so well here but slipped up come back and share with us again. Dobbin

Good story, Dobbin. I only drop in sporadically now but was pleased to see 426 days quit when I came through just now. Weirdly, I have had more cravings in the past week than I can remember. I breathe through them and laugh at how that old duffer, nicotine, is hanging out to be noticed. It won't be long now until I never notice it again.
That said, I am very grateful that this site is as vibrant as ever.

Thanks for posts. I remember when I started here that there were some seasoned quitters who really helped and cajoled me through when I was flagging.
I remember you both and it is so rewarding to see you are both OK.
With my own journey I was so helped by those that had quit long term and stayed to share it.
