Just a quick update. Day 46 and still going strong. Had a number of people over for drinks on Friday night and Sunday arvo. A few smokers on both occasions. Must admit, I was a little concerned and a bit antsy before anyone arrived Friday night. But luckily it really was much easier than I thought it would be. The next time I have people over, I won't even worry. A new habit is forming and I'm happy and excited.

On a down side, one of the people who came on Sunday had a heart attack 2 years ago. He quit smoking for 6 months and is now back on it. This scares the pants off me. I want to be a non smoker and confident that I'll never smoke again, but how can I be when so many people take it back up after 6 months/2 years etc. Very disheartening.

Keep up with the stories, they are a great inspiration.

Cheers

Hi AllyV, people take up smoking again after such long quit periods because they feel fitter and stronger not having smoked within that time. This is where they let themselves down and create a whole new ball game again that will eventually get the better of them once more. However, as we get older the body of a mature person will not heal itself any quicker than it had in our teenage years. Point i am making is....it takes longer to recover from every quit period that we regress to. We must just say "no more" and pray to the Lord for good health.......not continue to abuse our health regardless of what age we may be and for whatever period we smoked. So, do not feel scared but enjoy life without the nico imp. Cheers.

Hi Ally, this hangs over my head too - but I just remind myself that I NEVER want to go through the cravings of quitting ever again - with this in mind I truly don't believe I will ever smoke again...

Bring on the new healthier habits we now create :o)
