Whole day and didn't even think about cigarettes

Just reflecting on my quit journey and how extremely difficult the first few months were. I have been reading some posts whereby some quitters are really suffering during this period. Also noticed that a lot of posters have disappeared.

Hang in in there as it definitely gets better and better.

It was only because I received an icanquit email that I even thought about the subject of cigarettes.

Yesterday however I went 24 hours without the subject even crossing my mind.( not cravings but the subject of smoking ) This is a real breakthrough and one I thought impossible. I am now 386 smoke free days.

That's awesome . I must admit I sometimes wonder if it really is doable!! So many people seem to go back to it ( including me) . Great to know the demon can be broken

Hi Dobbin. Ages ago, I really wanted to get on top of this stupid addiction. One thing I did a long way down the quit path was to google smokers success rates for giving up. Unfortunately the results suggested doom and gloom. Less than 6% were likely to succeed. Touch wood, I decided not to succumb to whatever stirred 94% to err. Lucky for me, I am as pig headed about giving up as I was oh so long ago about starting... I know this stat to be true. Actually, it is probably a little generous. Actually wrote down the names of icanquit participants and there were so many that were never reporting back. Probably in excess of 94%. I was absolutely amazed. Honestly, if the support one gets on this site is not enough, what is? Just hope those who fell off the band wagon come to their senses and reclaim a huge portion of their wages or superannuation or pension and live to tell the tale. It is not easy. What's more we must never become complacent. Realize that those who regress or fail could easily be any of us in for the long haul.

Funny you should mention looking back over posts, Lia, I was looking for an old timer who helped me through the first few months with considerable honesty and humour and I couldn't see that they had posted anything recently, so I messaged them on an old post of theirs (from quite a few months back). I'm glad to say they are fine and still smoke-free but on my trawling I also noticed how many have dropped off the radar. I'm hoping they are just busy and have gone off on their smoke free way (ever the optimist). So as a note to the long termers, I think it's important that new people continue to see us on here so they know that this is doable. It does get easier but there are always the odd day that a craving will occur. Make sure you mention how long you've been smoke free too. It's a fact and it's important. I don't know any of you personally but I consider you friends.
