Blue sky

Hi icanquit community. Just felt like saying what a great experience being a non smoker is. I remember year after year of wanting to quit but putting it off until " I was ready ".
Those that have never smoked do not understand how miserable a smoker really feels when under the influence of nicotine cravings.
I really had no idea how the experience of giving up would evolve. I was gripped by the fear of failure.
In 53 years of smoking I had made no real effort to give up and looking back always gave myself the option of having a quick drag now and then. This was futile of course and one drag started the smoking process again.
This time I took that option away and resolved that to win I could never smoke again.
I cannot say that giving up is easy and in the initial few months I went through some strange experiences. However , non of these experiences killed me and found plenty of identification here with fellow quitters
Eventually the realisation that I may just succeed the feeling of elation was fantastic and saw blue sky for the first time in over half a century.
I am 19 days away from my first year of quitting and can say with confidence that I am a non smoker.
However also aware that one cigarette throws it all away

Go Dobbin! When you have lasted this long, the next 2 weeks means a point of no return. Gone are the days of inhaling poisons. 365 days is too long to regress. You will enjoy the weeks and months that lie ahead. Knowing you have successfully lasted this long will help spur you on. I am so thrilled I have over $9250 in the overs tray and I can breathe and the taste buds have kicked in again after oh so many decades... I think this sentiment rings true for you. As a fellow quitter, may I offer my congratulations and am thanking you for your inspiring posts.

Hey Lia and Steve01. Thanks for encouragement from you both and have really appreciated the regular comments. My wife and I are in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere ( Cornwall UK ) and on the way here I told her how great it is not to have to sneak outside for a cigarette.
To be one of the winners in this is a fantastic experience. Thanks again and please keep posting it's invaluable.
