Hi, I've been taking Champix for just over 9 weeks now. I gave myself a quit date of day 14 of the Champix course, but by then I was down to half a cig in the morning and half a cig in the evening. Once I'd got to 4 weeks of not smoking I felt that I really had got over it. I'd been to a leaving do at work where I'd had a number of drinks and still didn't smoke (sure I fancied having one!!) My nurse practitioner insisted that I keep taking the pills, so I'm now at week 9. I feel so depressed I can barely function, I've been snapping at my boyfriend for just about no reason, I feel tired all the time. So I've stopped taking the pills (I have weaned myself down from 2mg, to 1 to 1/2 mg over 2 weeks). I just want to feel normal again.

Hey Wenders, that doesn't sound very good about Champix but I have only heard about it on this site, not sure we have it here in the UK. I think you should go and see your doctor about the side effects. Make an appointment as soon as possible, check the side effects with the doctor and also how long it takes to get out of your system. Once you have an end date you will see a light at the end of the tunnel and it will make you feel more in control. You need to gain control of the situation and seeing your doctor is the first step. Let me know how you get on.

Hi WhiteWillow, I actually live here in the UK. I am looking to the future and getting rid of this drug from my system. I understand it has a 24 hour half life, so within the week I should start to feel normal again.

it takes some time for the body to learn how to function nicotine free I am at 102 days and while I don't have to fight off huge wanting a smoke all day I still get depressed and my body is doing strange stuff still.

but its ok I am not smoking so I am not making it worse I am healing and guess it just takes a bit.

well done keep going ring lifeline or somewhere to talk about stuff if it needs to come out it needs to come out.

no shame in looking for help I have done it several times in the last 102 days.

Hi Champix! I live in the USA and I thought it was really neat to see this medication called something different here. It is called Chantix here. I started taking it a little over a week now and today is my quit date. I had taken it in the past and it helped me tremendously. I quit smoking for 9 months! I had a life altering experience and let me weaknesses down and started back again. The only thing I am doing different now is joining this support group. I sure hope that this will make the difference in my quitting and staying smoke free for life!
