Now I have to quit coffee

Its over 100 days without nicotine in any form. I've been reading about nicotine's ability to nullify the effects of caffeine which means that if us smokers quit the cigs, we probably need to halve the coffee intake. Yesterday I drank 6-7 cups of coffee in the morning and by lunch time I was seriously overdosed with caffeine and I mean SERIOUSLY overdosed. I'm ok now (24 hours later) but its time for me to quit coffee as I am an addict and recently I've been damaging myself with the drug caffeine! I already knew these things and I've overdosed on coffee before but this time I think I may of reached rock bottom on the caffeine issue.

Well done, manchild on your smoke free days, I know a lot of people that gave up drinking coffee at the same time as cigarettes because they went hand in hand.

Good luck with your quit coffee, I can't face that yet, I'm about a week to 10 days behind your effort with smoking and I know my next step has to be getting control on my diet, my coffee addiction will have to stay until then.

I agree with IC, I think I will always have a battle with some addiction. but for now smoking is the only one I am really concentrating on.

Hi manchild, wow how active you are on this site.I don't comment much but read posts every so often and you do inspire. I too have struggled. My wife has filled a draw with the most amazing tea's and now limit coffee to only one. It's great to hear that you are still smoke free as well as some other regular supporters. You are the people that makes this site great.

Hey, well done on the smoke free 100. I think perhaps cutting down on the number of cups of coffee might be an idea. I thought you were going to say 6-7 a day not in one morning. Blimey. Perhaps 3 or 4 a day?

That's an awesome achievement manchild, well done. I dont know how anyone can drink that much coffee but I guess that's like a non smoker saying, 'i dont know how anyone can smoke'....so I get the addiction side of it. I dont know if this is a fact or not but i have noticed with people I know and even people who post in here that the heavier smokers tend to be bigger coffee drinkers. My husband is a heavier smoker and drinks 7 or 8 coffees per day. I have always had a cup of tea with breakfast, at least 2 coffees a day, occasional 3rd.......and that's it. Quitting the cigs hasnt changed any of that for me, but I was a light smoker.

Keep posting on your progress, its great to see...congrats.
