Dieting While Quitting

Its been 217 days since last firestick. I was 55 years old, 5' 3" and weighed 170 lbs. My biggest reason for NOT quitting was that I did not want gain another 20 pounds. I was fat enough as it was! On Nov 15th I got bronchitis (again), coukdnt smoke for a couple days because of coughing. On third day I thought I would try to quit. Had never tried before. I was really worried about gaining weight and decided to go on a 1200 calorie diet at the same time. My firestick friends said it could not be done. 217 days later----I am still not smoking, weigh 132 pounds and am getting stronger everyday. I am still on diet but now ride an incumbent bike about 25 miles a day and walk 3 miles. This is my FIRST summer without smoking and honestly---the triggers are firing at me like a machine gun but I know that if I can go a whole year and get through all four seasons, the triggers will decrease. This site is very helpful! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for all of your support!

That's a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing. Well done to you! I also started healthy eating and walking ..although it's only been a week I have already lost 2kg's ... however I do have a question .. what did you do to treat yourself food wise and overcome the cravings? :o)

Well done once again! Love the mentality.

Air popped popcorn----ate 10 cups 4 or 5 times a week. Restricted calories to 1200 per day. Your body gets used to it. Its okay to splurge, just have to exercise a little harder for the next 3 days after a splurge. I am rooting for you! Having freedom from firesticks and being strong and healthy is a real natural buzz!

Hey Ol Lady. Gave up at 55 myself and am currently 289 days smoke free. My friends and family didn't believe I could do it either and my youngest son jokingly threatened to amputate my cigarette which always seemed to be stuck in my mouth. Lol. I am enjoying my first smoke free summer since 1961. How ridiculous is that. The first ciggy I had made me violently sick but of course I persisted. Dobbin

Well done and thank you for your post. I think it is amazing that you had the discipline to restrict your calorie intake whilst giving up smoking. I discovered a sweet tooth when I gave up and allowed myself way too many lollies. Am now having to rectify the damage. Posts like yours help me enormously so thank you. Keep up the stellar work.
