Today is day 16 for me - yippee!! I have found it helpful to remind myself each day how wonderful it is to be a "non smoker" - I have had a very hard time quitting in the past but this time feels different and I really think it is a "mind set" - I am determined to kill the smokes rather than them killing me !!! I am starting to see some little changes in my skin and breathing and confidence - at the end if the day I feel relieved that I made it through another day without a cigarette - I think it is a huge life changing event reorganizing your life as a non smoker

Great effort Lisa, well done. I am also at day 16 and feel exactly as you do. May I ask, what method did you use to quit?

schedule 28 May 2016

Thank you Flora - way to go to you too!! I am using the patch - I started on step 2 which seems to be adequate, however I am anxious to get off the patch just concerned it may be too soon ?! What about you , what are you using and how long were you a smoker ?

You're welcome Lisa and ty too. I've been smoking for most of my adult life and I am 50 years young, however I was never a heavy smoker. I found it difficult to quit as my husband also smokes. So I figured I needed something to help me not want to smoke. Started to use Champix over a month ago, with some minor side effects that I managed. I also halved the dose for myself and continued. I am not sure exactly how the patches work as far as steps go...but with Champix its also a program recommended to go for 3 months...each month being a 'step'. I am now weaning myself off and feeling fine, no urges or wanting to smoke. Like you, I was a little anxious about weaning myself off this soon as its not recommended but so far so good. Im guessing you use a patch daily...could you wean off too...perhaps put one on every other day? What do they recommend?

Well done Lisa, I feel differently this time too. If you're anxious to come off the patch then you're probably ready. You can always put one back on. The nicotine is only in your system 2 days. It's your mindset that is the most difficult and it sounds like you've sorted that. Do what feels right.

Thank you for the encouragement white willow ! It sounds like you have tried to quit before as well ? I think a good part of my strength to do it this time is my age - a lot older now and more determination this time - as everyone - just sick of being a slave to the smokes - however this is work but I enjoy talking with others dealing with the same thing and words of encouragement - this is really the only place I get it so thank you all - we CAN do this !!!
