Hello, I am 50 years young and been smoking for most of my adult life, albeit a light smoker. I found it difficult to quit cold turkey as my husband also smokes. I saw my GP and got myself onto Champix. I have been on them for a 3.5 weeks. I have been smoke free for 8 days now and do not feel like or wish to smoke. As for side effects, sometime during 2nd week I felt down and irritable but that has passed, Ive had very faint nausea type feeling after taking tablet (taken always with food, a must!), some weird dreams, dry mouth and constipation...which I have managed in various ways. As I am so petite, I have recently halved the dosage for myself, which has settled everything down and it's still all working out fine. So far so good.

Ps. Well done to those who have quit and Good luck to those who are attempting to. Cheers

Well done Flora, what ever way is easiest for each of us. The most important thing is that we reach the same place in the end. I'd not heard of Champix before this site but I have had such bad experiences with chemical assistance trying to wean myself off that I am trying it Cold Turkey this time. Glad you managed to get the dose right for you and well done for being smoke free for 8 days.

Thanks so much WhiteWillow and good luck to you too. I also hate taking medication and I will start weaning myself off soon. Will keep posted and I hope to hear your progress too.

You have to do what's right for you. If this is the road you need to travel to take you off the smoking path then so be it. I tried patches but my arm started to tingle with pins and needles and then went numb. That's not to say it doesn't work for others. This site support is what works for me. Keep going the way you're going and we will both beat it together. One step at a time. Here for you, Flora

Cheers WW. How are you feeling today? I have been out for most of the day ...just having a coffee, dont feel like a smoke at all but the fleeting thought is there. Cant wait til I dont ever think about smoking (or not smoking) anymore....I so want to be like someone who's never smoked, whereby the thought never occurs. Oh well, day 9...no complaints.

Hi Flora, I am about a week away from finishing the course of Champix , today is day 68 smoke free,. I have been fortunate I have had no real bad side effects, my main issue has been sleeping but it is slowly getting better.

Use whatever you need to assist in your attempt, in the first couple of weeks I also used NRT's, but it doesn't work for everyone. Take one day at a time and have faith in yourself you can do this

Hello Storm, that is awesome to hear....well done! Thank you for the words of encouragement too. I haven't really had a problem with sleep, but the constipation was not good...but it's all working itself out now. Still only taking .5 tab daily and its doing the job for me.

Thank you for the words of encouragement, much appreciated. Cheers.

Thank you Larney. That is why i found it difficult to quit cold turkey..cause of smoking hubby, so i turned to Champix. Today is day 13 smoke free!! I have taken the first steps to weaning myself off them in a small way...missed tabs for yesterday...taking 1 half today and will do this every other day for a week or so...til the next step. It's all kinda planned in my head. Feeling great!
