The Smell of success

One of the things I am aware of since quitting 3 years 6 months and 16 days ago is the fact that I can smell things again. In the 53 years I smoked, I forgot that some (actually most) things had a scent. I am not speaking of things like perfumes, after shave lotion, and deodorant. Most of those things I could easily do without smelling. It is things like snow, new mown hay, an autumn day at the lake, rain, an orchard in bloom, earth warmed by the summer sun, my newest great grandchild fresh from her daily bath, or the smell of my wife's hair when she hugs me. I have come to realize that my sense of smell was one more thing nicotine had robbed me of because is was gradual, slow, and careful in its thievery. Still - I am so very glad to have regained the ability to smell the sweetness of life about me. It is just one more reason that I will never again smoke.

So great to know that there are still things to which we can look forward. Everyone told me that my sense of taste and smell would improve and, to be honest, after five months they haven't. But I am looking forward to the day when they will.
Thank you for keeping on coming back - it means a lot for those of us who need a kick of motivation from time to time.
