115 Days on the Roller Coaster

Posted in Quit experiences
schedule 15 Dec 2015

The great thing is that I had to look up and check how many days I was at. It feels good to be chugging on, nicotine-free, and still on track. I went for a rigorous walk today, up some steep hills, and although I was breathless, it felt like I was cleaning out my lungs.

Whilst it is definitely easier, it remains a challenge. I am going through some torrid times at the moment and the temptation to smoke had arisen. No physical symptoms - just that devil of a synapse which is missing attention. All I keep on thinking is : 'Really, after all of this? I don't think so '.

So roll on Christmas, with all of its challenges - if we can get through that we can get through anything. There will always be a reason to smoke, whether it is to celebrate or to find solace. Choosing not to smoke means dismissing those reasons. Not easy but a great feeling once the reason has been flattened.

Good luck everyone.

Hi Fullofhope. You have come so far. Don't blow it just because there are things in your life that seemingly need a nicotine fix to make it better. Just joking, and you know it. Who ever said non smokers would go through life without any problems? Remember, not smoking gives you an opportunity to think and embrace a problem and look for a solution as opposed to checking out, wasting time and pretending it does not exist. Keep soldiering on with the rest of us...

Well done. You have hit the nail on the head about this journey for me. Dismissing the reasons to give in and smoke is empowering and you feel a great sense of accomplishment when you do not give into temptation. Looks like this is first Christmas and new year for a lot of us - all the best people

schedule 22 Dec 2015

ok have made it to my seventh day of no smoking and whilst it has not been easy I haven't actually been too bad - touch wood! Its the tying to figure out what to do as a reward that is bugging me - dust the room, vacuum = reward of ciggie! now I have no rewards - I think this is what gets me every time - tried lollies, they didn't work nor did drinking tea or cordial so am now trying deep breathing and the promise of a treat at the end of each week! perhaps you all have ideas you wouldn't mind sharing?
