7 days of torture but very much worth it.

You absolutely can do it. I have been a heavy smoker for 28yrs. I am only 43 years old. One week ago tonight I had my last smoke. I struggle everyday. The extra $200 in my purse this week is what is keeping me on track. Imagine. I was paying some ultra rich "people" to kill me basically. No more. Never again.

Congratulations Belle! It is torture at the moment! But we can't go back! I'm 48 and have been a heavy smoker for over 30 years. I'm still struggling after giving it up for a month but others say it gets easier! Annette's posts are good she is further along and has good suggestions! Hang in there😀

Hi Belle & Kazzy, well done so far to both of you. I started smoking when I was 15 or 16 and I'm just about to turn 43, so yes, about 26 years - it's enough. I quit cold turkey in April but during extreme stress I gave in at day 111. A big reason was because I had stopped checking in to this site which is so full of support. Instead of going to the shop I should have checked in here first. I thought after 3 whole months I didn't need to check in anymore. I thought I was safe & was going so well. Luckily I am back on track and once again enjoying the lovely freedom of not smoking. Stick with us and you can make it through the tough times! In the beginning I found morning walks got me through, every morning when the kids got on the bus instead of going back to the house for coffee and a smoke I just kept walking. It felt fabulous to walk in the fresh air, a pleasant change. You just need to make little positive changes throughout your journey to suit your new lifestyle, replacing those times with something else. It's a challenge but as we keep saying it's worth it. You are worth it. Stay strong and good luck.

Hi Belle Well done. You have had the big light bulb moment when you realise the stupidity of paying for a product that kills us. Anyway only one direction to go now and that is forward .Like you I was spending $27.81 every day, now instead of a dart when I wake up my new habit is to log straight on to Netbank and deposit 27.81 into my savings and I write what day Im up to. Today I clicked over 1900. Like you the money has been a huge motivating factor. Your resolve and determination have kicked in big time. I have a star chart on my pantry as well as a spreadsheet(under my starchart) showing day date and the cumulative amount of adding 27.81 every day which I highlight every morning to see where im up to and place a star on my chart. Congratulations we can all do it. keep posting

Well done to you Belle and Kazzy. It is great to have some fellow travellers on this journey who understand the challenges but are remaining determined. As everyone has said, this website is a great resource - especially when it just gets too hard. We are surrounded by people in our everyday life who have no understanding of addiction and it is so reassuring to keep coming back here. Together, we can do it.

Wow. You people are terrific. Thank you so very much. Awesome awesome awesome support here and such inspirational stories. Thank you.
