Not a big deal, sought help.

As I passed the medical centre, I decided, pretty much on a whim, to stop in and see what the doc had to say about Champix. He reckoned it'd be alright, so I got a script and filled it at the chemist next door. Started that day, went through the process, and haven't had a smoke nor a craving since my last smoke. 561 days today.
The main difference this time is that it wasn't a milestone, or magic day, or any hoopla... that took the pressure off because i was just going to see how it went.

Hi Rob, congrats, wonderful stuff! Sounds very similar to my quit. I had always found the idea of planning to quit very confronting, and even though I'd bought nicotine replacements ready for a preplanned attempt a couple of times they'd just sat unused in the cupboard... One night I just thought I'll finish the smokes in my packet and give it a shot in the morning. No pressure, no cutting down, no time for fear of failing or searching for excuses. Can't say I didn't have cravings, but I did become determined not to give in during an actual craving, but to wait it out. Just checked, 779 days since that utterly impulsive thought!

Cheers, and good on ya as well! I'm occasionally (when the one guy in the office remembers that I quit and then goes on about it!) noticed that the proportion of my life as a smoker, versus as a not-smoker is slowly improving.
