I had been smoke free for 44 days and yesterday I slipped up. After looking at the tip on this site, I have decided not to change my quit date as I think I can still make it ... I am feeling really DOWN about my slip up. Has anybody slipped up before and still managed to quit. It scares me as I so desperately want to quit. I thought I was well on my way to being smoke free after 44 days ... I am trying to stay positive and don't feel like smoking but it has scared me. HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYBODY BEFORE ....

Hi Jakksta, Don't be cranky with yourself, as they say it takes a few tries to quit. Last year I went 26 days and then caved in and then continued to waste my money and smoke for another 9 months before I came to this decision. I regret not getting back on the bike immediately after I slipped up. I think while you are still in the zone in terms of quitting it would be good to just stop again. I was more angry that I waited another 9 months before I gave up again. 44 days is huge I just wouldn't count yesterday as smoke free but give up again today and keep going with day 45. People have slip ups that's part of the journey. Just stay in the QUIT ZONE while your headspace is there. Good luck x

Hi Jakksta,

I slipped up after 60 odd days, I didn't worry about it as I haven't had one since. If you continue smoking after slipping up then you should feel bad, until you try again of course. Please don't beat yourself up, you went 44 days you can continue on. If your trying not to eat junk food or drink you wouldn't binge if you had a piece of cake would you? Seriously just be proud of what you've achieved. So now you can get excited about not smoking again now and see how much further you go. A friend of mine had a smoke after 10 odd years and then never had another one. She didn't give it a second thought, just said it was horrid and continued on as a non smoker. Good luck your doing fantastically :)Sharon

Don't beat yourself up too much. I am up to day 46 smoke free. Having read the experiences of others on this site, it becomes very clear that once a smoker always a smoker. You can however, choose to STOP. You can not really quit! You never know when the craving will visit. One trick the craving plays on the unsuspecting is to suggest rewarding yourself for not smoking. We all know where this leads. One can easily become 1 packet! I have not slipped up yet. I don't know if I would start a new journey or just record a slip up. Hang in there and you know from posts on this site you are not alone...

Welcome to the slip up club Jakksta.

Don't bash yourself up over it, it happens (look at my story) but I think the sooner you start again the better, it's so easy to pick up that habit again.

Practice makes perfect.

Hi All, Thanks so much for your support. I jumped straight back on the wagon and are still off the cigi's. Thanks 2 Pack, I have stopped beating myself up and are moving forward strong and confidently (but with a guard up). I have decided not to start my journey again but to deduct the one day off as I am quite proud of how far I have come... It helps so much having this place to talk to people going through the same issue's ...
