Ok so gave up smoking, cold turkey, 18 days ago. First week or so was simply dreadful, very stroppy, agitated, hated the world... many many deep breaths later, got through it and felt much calmer and very proud. Had to change my routine so I didn't crave that 1st cigarette in the morning. However was wondering if anyone else has suffered with these symptoms, very sore mouth, extremely sore gums, everything tasting weird, constant feeling of starting with a cold. Only consolation being I'm not putting on weight because it hurts to eat. Is this normal

Hi Deb,

I had all the above, I also got mouth ulcers, pimples, head aches just to name a few. Every time I got something it was only for a few days. Just keep drinking heaps of water. These things are happening cause the chemistry in your body is changing. (changing for the good) Stick at it, don't let these little things deter you, cause the end prize is huge. Good luck

Hi Deb, Are you on the gum???? It is not uncommon to have some symptoms and they do pass, I had the pimples and a bad taste in my mouth a few headaches by the afternoon but I put it down to withdrawals from the nicotine, but it's been over 5 weeks and they have all subsided. hang in there , it is not easy but at the end of every day I feel proud of myself for what I have achieved

No Jenny S, hate gum of any description so going cold turkey. I think I'd be fine if it wasn't for all these side effects. I do feel proud every day when I realise I haven't smoked. I will hang in there but honestly (and obviously naively) I thought I would just be bad tempered, never really thought about any other possible side effects. They are worse than the cravings. Oh well, I will get there, thanks for the support and well done you for doing 5 weeks :)

Good job on your quit. I too felt like you when I first quit, I took many naps in the beginning. Your body begins to heal, you will go through changes in food, mood, smells, what you want to do changes. I think its all normal. Keep at it, it does get better. I quit 6 months ago, cold turkey.
