my champix story

Hello folks. I'm new to this site but not so new to attempting to quit smoking. This is my 6th serious attempt at quitting a 20 year habit and I'm just about 37 years old. This is my fourth time on champix. I've never completed the full 12 weeks and always smoked within 6 weeks of stopping the meds.

It's the most difficult thing most any smoker will ever try to attempt. Sadly, most of us fail. Several times! I hope this is it for me.

Like some of you, I too am using champix and are suffering the same, if not all of the symptoms you are. It makes it difficult to stick with them more so due to the psychiatric symptoms then the physical.

The headaches seem mild and easily forgotten I find. The nausea can be subsided with food for me. Toast or bagels seem to work best for the upset tummy. It's just tough to force feed yourself when you feel that way.

As far as the dreams, I find them mostly comical. Sometimes I will wake up and believe something happened for real but was just a dream. The agitated mood swings and jealous paranoia are what's bothering me second to my greatly reduced sex drive. I sometimes find myself convinced my fiancé is out cheating on me to the point where I've started asking her where abouts and timeline. She is also taking it very hard. She feels as though I'm no longer attracted to her.

I love how fast the champix works but really am growing weary of the side effects. I have about six weeks to go and I hope that's it.

Good luck to those of you trying to quit. Keep at it even if you fall back a step.

Onya! I am quitting tomorrow.

I would suggest what my doctor did, he gave me Xanax to take at the same time as the Champix, it is only 0.25MG but i felt the dose to large for me, so 15 minutes before taking Champix i take a quarter of a Xanax and really find it deals with anxiety and weird thoughts i have... if needed, i take the other quarter. I find i can actually think and can work with a sane mind. Hope this advice helps you.
