Get your doctor to check your lung health..

It has been 3 and a half months since my last puff..
Before my doctor prescribed Champix, I had to do a lung test where I had to blow through a tube as hard as I could and they measured by lungs. The result was that after years of smoking my 47 year old lungs are at 86% of what they should be for a man of my age, height and weight. And I still feel the missing 14%.. Needless to say that I will never again suck in the smoke from a cigarette to make it even harder for me to breath into the future.
DON'T SMOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THERE IS NO UPSIDE.
IF THERE WAS AN UPSIDE TO SMOKING, WE WOULD NOT HAVE LUNGS..

I love hearing how people have made it that far - 3 1/2 months is really awesome. I've got a little while to get there yet, another 7 weeks and I'll be where you are. I've got great confidence I can do it. Did the doctor say you will regain the missing 14% in time, I'm wondering, will we ever have 100% lung capacity again? Actually, your lucky it's not a lot less than the 84%, it could have been a lot worse. Good on you & keep it up. I totally agree with you no one should ever smoke the damn things in the first place!

Unfortunately I will not regain the lost 14%. This is as good as it gets in relation to lung capacity. What the doctor did tell me was that instead of reaching the advanced stages of emphysema by the age of 60, it will get me much later in life, say in my 80's if I live that long. Good luck with quitting!

Gosh, that's all very scary to think about but actually really good news for you! Thank goodness you've been able to quit now & not left it any longer. I'm having a dreaded chest x-ray tomorrow, just for peace of mind that I am ok, fingers crossed.
All the best to you.
