I have been smoking since I was 14 years young. And now I am 58. So, it was a long time smoking, and will take some time to stop. That's 44 years. Back when I started smoking, the big tobacco companies stated, There was no harm in smoking, and that it did not cause cancer? REALLY! I would love to sue them, just for that comment alone. But, I don't have the big bucks to do that. As they took all of my money. I don't know how much 44 years of smoking cost me. The fact is I was just 14 years old. And shops had no problems with that back then, $7 a packet. You know back in the 1990, I remember buying a carton for $20. That's how greedy these companies have become. To be truthful,if they had not become so greedy in 25 years, and had small increases, say a couple of dollars. I would still be smoking. I know that. And can someone tell me why, there is such a fluctuation in the price, $35.99 one day. Then the next day $32.95? Well, I do not have to worry about that anymore. Do I. All good. Trish good luck everyone :)

I remember mum making me run into the corner shop to buy her a packet of Benson & Hedges, I was only about 7 or 8 years old. I also bought them for myself later on quite easily & under age, and yes they were so cheap back then. I agree, these companies have a lot to answer for. I remember the commercials made smoking look so glamorous, little did we know. I can't quite believe I've been smoking for 26 yrs. I always told myself I'd stop at 30 but I've kept going for another 12yrs. Day 4 tomorrow & still ok. We can keep it up!

Hi Trish, I can also happily add to that my savings on alcohol coz if I don't smoke I don't drink. Hope your doing ok & didn't make it to the shop! Day 5 for me, a social chat at the school after kids anzac presentation caused me to desperately want one for my social anxiety's sake but I just had to grin & bare it, headed home for a coffee & got stuck into the eucalyptus lollies. Gees it's hard sometimes!

Hi! Trish, it is only a matter of time until all the angry smokers who have woken up to

the tobacco manufacturers all get together if not in Australia possibly world wide to

sue the pants off the greedy blighters who knew quite well cigarettes would addict peopple

and keep them coming back again and again to buy packet after packet addicted to the habit

of smoking while wrecking their own health in the process.

The reason I say this is from your own experience of being able to buy smokes at 14 yrs

old and how easy they were to buy for children?

But not only the tobacco manufacturers have rubbed our fur up the wrong way but so has

the Govt; too now, where taxing cigarettes tobacco, has become a cash cow and revenue

earner off the backs of smokers, punishing smokers whose only crime has been to

become addicted to a substance in cigarettes which is the poisonous chemicals in tobacco

and nicotine, the reason smokers keep going back to buy cigarettes addicted to them

and with smoking a habit too? In 2012-2013 I saw Tony abbott on tv saying taxes from

smoking was $11 billion dollars, a staggering amount, and a golden goose too

laying golden eggs, but destined to die too one day, with each smoker that quits!

and what sweet revenge for those who have already quit and those already on their journey

to Quit.

In closing had I known back in the day when I took up smoking in 1981, what I know now

today from the public education and information around, I'd never ever have started

smoking at all, since we'd have been able to make a much better choice to smoke or not

smoke with the facts all laid out before us, when such education was not around years

ago and socially it was acceptable to smoke, no one asked questions, or saw the harm in

it, or how damaging it was to your health, and so Governments should be going after

manufacturers to impose a huge tax on them to pay for all the health bills predicted

in the health system, for all the smokers tobacco manufacturers and their product addicted

people to, profiting handsomely off their addiction to tobacco in the process.

There is something very sinister about designing and manufacturing products to sell to people knowing when people are addicted that they'll return and keep on buying that product

dont you think? Another good example is Coca cola, at how they put cocaine in it to addict

people and one reason for years it was drink consumed and very popular around the world.

Cannabis oil and marijuana will be the next new manufactured product, developed by a

business model of think tank business experts at prestigious USA university Harvard.

Thank goodness we are now on Quit smoking journey to join those who have already Quit

enjoying life smokefree! and no longer paying out their money to tobacco giants or

overtaxation of cigarettes or inflated prices to the Govt; now either.
