Thinking of quitting champix early!?

I have smoked for 23 years, quit cold turkey once for 7 months 15 years ago. Out of boredom started smoking again. I am now on day 17 of champix the first dose staring at .5mg for the first week then 2mg for the remainder. I was able to quit smoking on day 6 I tried to have a smoke that day and it left me feeling nauseated and like I had to lay down all day! Haven't had the urge or thought to smoke at all, it's even made alcohol and the odd marijuana usage not attractive. The problem is their hasn't been one day since taking champix that I haven't felt sick, tired and the tip of my tongue taste like metal that's constantly watering. The feeling never goes away and I do take it after a full breakfast with lots of water and a full supper with lots of water. I threw up one night, and feel like I could easily throw up at any time. I like how champix has turned me off smokers and smoking but this feeling of complete sickness doesn't seem worth it to keep taking the full term. I hope my determination beats having to take the pill and I can be a non smoker for good! Anyone else feel this crappy?

Hi Elleinad,
I am on my second month course of Champix. Into about the 6th day. I did get very tied and fuzzy headed for the first few weeks taking the Champix. The nausea is still a thing that happens, but thankfully it does pass within about 15-20 minutes. Thankfully I have not thrown up. I have been close though many times. The tongue feeling never really goes away either. I actually hadn't thought too much about it until I read your story. I have a thick gluggy feeling on the tongue.
I have persevered with the side effects as I know in the long run, the pain will be well and truly worth the gain. Like having to be able to breath properly, smell and taste again.
Sorry to ramble. I hope you manage to stay on track. Just take it a day at a time.
Cheers. :)

I can relate to all those side effects. I spokento my doc who recommended i reduce the dosage from one 1mg tablet twice a day to once a day then reduce that dosage to two half tablets twice a day and now im on half a tablet per day.
Note that this course only started after 7 days smoke free. I just started my second course.
The urge to smoke has not increased but the side effects are gone and im smasing my savings goal and im feeling great!

I agree will Robbie12.

Thanks FeelinGood & Robbie12 for your feedback! I am going to keep at it and just hope I eventually get used the the side effects..I am going to check with the pharmacist about cutting back the dosage so I can finish the whole course of Champix. For the 23 years that I've smoked I have never been one to smoke a pack (25) a day, unless a heavy night of drinking was involved, usually 5-10 a day..I wonder if that's why from the beginning of taking Champix I've felt these side effects so strongly!?

Hi Robbie,
I have just finished my second week of Champix and luckily had very little side effects. This drug has however loosened enough the awful grip nicotine addiction had on me to allow me to successfully part with the smokes. That is in my view worth a lot of discomfort for a short while.
Before you give up on the tablets, try this:
1. Take the tablets in the middle of a decent meal - that is eat half of your plate, take the tablet with a glass of water and then finish the meal
2. I think you may find that once you give up the smokes, most of the side effects of Champix goes away by itself. My GP has told me that while we are still smoking, Champix can have side effects such as nausea etc but on a smoke/nicotine free person its rare
Persevere mate, it is so much worth it in the long run!
PS: I'm still waiting for those vivid dreams they promised me when I started taking them :)

Yes apalsson, that would make sense for the side effects to not be there as much once quitting smoking but it hasn't for me.. as today, I'm on day 8 smoke free! I will try the pill in between my meals maybe that would help a bit but so far it hasn't gotten easier on my stomach since the beginning of starting Champix!? I feel like I'm going to stick it out anyways because I don't ever want to have to start over with quitting again.
PS I've had a few vivid dreams, have to say that has been the best part of Champix so
far! haha
