My 12th attempt

I am now day 16 smoke free. I have using patches which I have done the last 11 times. This time I am experiencing difficulty breathing and shortness of breath. I must say though I had minor surgery 21 days ago so not sure if this has contributed to my problem, or because I gave also suffered a cough since April which I now know was a smokers cough because that has gone. Thank God
i have taken off the patch about 3 hours ago and wondering what method I should use as of tomorrow. I do need an aid because I was a heavy smoker, about 20 a day and have smoked for 42 years.
Thinking I might try the gums. Any suggestions
thanks
Anne

Hi Anne congrats on 16 days! I smoked for over 30 years and I am now on day 80 smoke free. I am using champix and that has worked for me, but it is not for everyone. I still do get cravings but not often, mostly just if I have drinks - alcoholic ones! :). When I first quit I found that at my normal smoke times I really felt I was missing something so I would get up and get a big glass of water instead, then in the evenings I replaced smoking with tea, I try all the different flavoured herbal teas. I now look forward to that evening tea and don't even think about having a cigarette with it as it has become my replacement. See if you can find a healthy substitute to get you thru the rough patches. Just remember you have made it 16 days if you can do it all that time you can keep doing it because you won't need one anymore tomorrow than you did yesterday and you got thru yesterday! :). Keep up the strength, you can do this!
