Stay True

Hello, I have just joined.I started smoking at the age of 16 and am now 56. Thats 40 years of smoking a packet of 30 per day I had never tried to quit smoking in the past as I always though that I was not strong enough to succeed.
I am happy to say that i am now on day 29 of quitting smoking. I was aware of the different NRT that was available and decided that if I was really going to make the committment to quit smoking quitting cold turkey was how i was going to do it.
I started my quit time in the middle of the day, no real reason for it. I carried half a packet in my handbag for the first week as for me it was saying that I can have one anytime i wanted one, but I was in control and choosing not too. After a week I removed the half packet to the glovebox in my car as i still needed that knowledge that i was in control. Yesterday, after 4 weeks without smoking, i threw them out.
Once you get through the first few days of cravings, the next step is getting you head space where it needs to be. Acknowledging cravings for what they are is important. They pass pretty quick.I tend to to just run with and and not think about it.
We will all go through different symptoms from withdrawal and i know for me, its been the sleepless nights in those first couple of weeks. I do believe that no matter what we go in the quitting process will be worth it to be smoke free.

Congrats. Lindy, a great effort. I am an 18 months quitter but I do not think I could have got through if I had Cigs. around me. You must have great will power so you look a certainty.

Congrats. I like your decision to go cold turkey. I did the same. For me I was just fed up with nicotine controlling my body and I didn't want it to be part of my quitting. I just wanted it out. :)

Thank you Warts JAWZ and RSQUPUG for your supporting words, 5 weeks today.
I am hoping the sore throat eases up soon, however I guess i just have to accept the healing process.
