dependent on lozenges

schedule 20 Jul 2014

I am responding to those who say they have become addicted to lozenges....they are such a great help quitting....you can stop the first day you use loz. You have them stuck to the roof of your mouth every waking minute, can eat, drink, talk, sing, brush your teeth...they stay up there and melt into your bloodstream and you totally forget that nasty smelly clumsy habit of firing up. you can have no desire for nico in church, at work, using both hands, around children, wherever....because there is always one in your mouth...minty, actually. a little chalky minty til you get used to it - but once you realize, the first day, that you thought about having a smoke and then FORGOT about it - there you go. And you stop coughing. totally.

I have no idea how it is if you follow the directions for # to use and how long. I was too thrilled to be the only one not spending my whole break driving to the smoking area off the parking lot at work. I was so smug.

They cost about as much as smoking if you use Wallymarts or Walgreens brand.

What I want to say very out loud is THEY WILL DAMAGE YOUR TEETH QUICKLY AND BADLY!!

As if you ate sugar candy all day every day. Common sense, yeah?

When I first got worried about using them so long (3 years at the time) I asked my pulmonary physician (who was so happy about the results of not smoking) He also couldn't see any cancer causing problem, or renal risk getting rid of the chemical. But he was smart enough to say "might not be too good for your teeth". I hadn't exactly mentioned 3 years.

Well. I never had cavities. And what was that compared to being free of tobacco after 40 years?

So...I kept using them, still do, still scan the net for any reports of liver damage or anything else - not finding any. But I have lost 4 teeth, a perfectly good 2 year old bridge disintegrated, and my dentist wants to know if I have some health issues I am not telling him about (no, just a bad habit!)

I do not admit it to him because he will tell me I am stupid to be spending all this money replacing teeth. He will tell me to stop or go somewhere else if I am going to sabotage all his work.

But, you know, ...I'm going to quit them. As soon as life gets smooth. yeah.

I did wake up one day last year, and without really planning to, somehow didn't want the first mint or want a cigarette -  for the next five months. Then there was a crisis so I bought them instead of cigs.

so...please know the easy way has a real bad side. Maybe if you brushed your teeth, rinsed mouth all day long it would be less so. Or just use them right in the first place.

I'll let you know when I have put them down.

Here we all are giving up smokes but it's really all about being dependent on a legal substance called nicotine.... I cut one of those strips in half stuck it in the roof of my mouth... Quickly realized the transference of one product to another and ran straight to the bathroom and washed my mouth out. No more nicotine.... 31 yrs dependent. No more. It's a drug.!!!!! Not a habit!!! But we become addicted to both .... I'm only day 8 and I'm still fighting . My choice is not to be a drug addict. This is for the kids!!!
