Hi there, I will be 6 weeks clean fron cigarettes on Wednesday, and as a 6 yr sober and clean addict, I have found putting down cigarettes to be just as hard as stopping drinking/drugging!! I have felt all of the emotional swings excruciating and intense, and the anger I have been pushing down with a packet of cigs a day has been explosive. I am slowly starting to find some calm, and although I am still experiencing intense cravings, they are short lived.

The real test, and feeling of gratitude Ive been waiting for will come , I think, when I start swimming on Wednesday!!- hoping to feel the joy of clean lungs.

RDG- I go to self-help groups. I gave up alcohol eleven years ago. I did it one day at a time. If I don't pick up the first drink, I can't get drunk. I gave up drinking to quit smoking. I have been quitting for nineteen years. The first thing that happened was, I got uptight about it and smoked an extra ten cigarettes a day. I haven't smoked today. I have begun to have smoke-free days. My goal at the moment is to smoke 5 or less, including smoke-free days. I have achieved my goal for a week.
