Thank You Champix

I am 33 years old and had smoked from the age of 14. I used to smoke mainly roll ups and between 25-30 a day during the week but up to 50-60 on a weekend night depending how the party was going!. I never thought I would have the strength to quit despite my own mother dying from cancer at the age off 44 a few years back I enjoyed my ciggies and that was that no one was going to tell me any different! I finaly decided to quit purely by accident I think I had a free medical at work (which was fine by the way) and at the bottom ticked a section asking if I wanted to quit smoking so I ticked it and thought nothing of it. I had my first meeting with a no smoking adviser 1 week later who went through my options and decided Champix was the best bet.

I took the tablets for the first week and noticed I was smoking less and that they did not seem as enjoyable by the 11th day I had stopped completly. Now do not get me wrong Champix affected me badly for the first six days I probably had 4-5 hours sleep a night when I did sleep I had the most vivid dreams you could imagine(by the way vivid does not always mean bad if you catch my drift) and I was moody . But by the second week all side effects had stopped and I was still smoke free. IT has now been 33 days since my last ciggie I am still taking my tablets 1 in the morning and 1 at night as well as reciving weekly support from my no smoking advisor who attends my workplace the guy even gave me his mobile number as he is on holiday next week and said I could call if needed! I guess what I am trying to say to all people trying to quit is stick with it! I will not lie its not easy infact its bloody hard but its worth it in the end! If you have tried patches gum with no success give champix a try ask yourself is it worth a week of side effects(which do not affect all by the way) for the rest of your life smoke free it was for me I have never felt so good!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Steve! Congrats on your success! I too am on day 33 using champix and you are right, it truly does feel so good to be healthy, I love the feeling of taking a deep breath! Question for you, how have you handled parties? That's what worries me, I've been avoiding them.

schedule 22 Jun 2014

The simplest way to handle parties is to face straight on. The more you think about avoiding them the more you will regret/resent not smoking! Remember you are holding/going to parties for fun not to SMOKE . My partner still smokes which was difficult at first I even made her go outside to begin with but have now relented and she smokes in front of me at the end of the day its got to be her decision to stop I cant make her and defiantly cant force her i know deep down the longer I am stopped eventually she will see sense!Well done on your time stopped keep strong and keep up the good work. Thanks for the advise Steve, you are right I can't avoid life! I need to get back to doing normal things and just tell myself I am a non smoker! Time to hang out with that bunch at a party, I am sure they are just as fun as the smokers! :). Keep up the great job yourself!
