Persist with Champix if you can

Thank you Champix for helping me quit. I hated everything about smoking ie. how I smelt, the taste of tobacco. There is not one nice thing about it but I'd been smoking for 26 years (I quit for a year before that 26 years) myself but started a year later because I'd put on a few kgs, such a lousy excuse to start.

This time I really wanted to quit but felt I needed help. I am on the 2nd month now and haven't smoked for over 3 weeks. This last week has been quite bad with me wanting a cig maybe once a day I have thought about it BUT I know IF I have that cig I will have to start the Champix ALL OVER AGAIN and its not an option.

The first few weeks on Champix were the worst I felt so tired, grumpy, nauseous but not for long and had headaches. So I took headache pills, got some rescue remedy to calm me down. I think its sad if people don't try go through with this course. The side effects (unless unbearable) won't last for long.

I feel fantastic, ok put myself on diet because I don't want to have to deal with putting on weight. I don't stink anymore and I don't have that foul taste in  my mouth either. Thanks Champix!

Way to go Li keep up the great work! Yes champix definitely helps. I am on day 35 smoke free, but at about 14 days smoke free I went down to one pill a day because I couldn't stand the headaches anymore. My friend and I who are quitting together both did this and we are both still smoke free, the champix still seems to be helping but not making me feel sick anymore. Regardless, you still have to use willpower and you have to want to be a no smoker, sounds like you are definitely on the right path. Keep it up and best of luck to you!

Please post your diet secrets, as I am obese. I find I lose weight if I walk. My trouble is motivation. I don't think of it.

Thanks Kam!! That is great you managed to go to one pill a day and still not be smoking! Its a month for me today yoohoo so proud of my little self! I was going to NOT take the 3rd course but they say you have to because the way I'm feeling (and maybe you guys) is that we have it in the bag and haven't really?

Penelopejane the only diet secrets I have are unfortunately common sense. To lose and maintain weight (and I AM NOT a dietician or doctor) is to choose a healthy lifestyle and eat the correct foods and most importantly correct portions. There is no quick fix. Walking is good but you need to change your eating habits. The saying we are what we eat is so true. Its 99% diet and 1% (important though) exercise.

This is my second shot at champix. First time was about 5 years ago.Stopped smoking before the end of first 14 days but suffered with nausea, bloating weight gain so dropped to one tab a day with effect. It was so easy I thought I was stronger than cigs at the end of the 12 weeks. WRONG! I thought I could still have one and stay in control. I was back to smoking as much as pre champix within a few weeks.I am having another go but this time more informed and prepared. I now know that each day without a cigarette is an achievement and I don't want to go back to smoking. I have now been without a cigarette for 58 days. I don't have any loose ones around as I gave the last ones away at day 7.I have challenged myself with social situations and survived. I now need to join a gym and exercise program as my usual program isn't working so I can shake the extra kilo's. I would not be where I am now without champix as I never had the motivation to stop, the thought was there but couldn't stop lighting the next one.We should all stand up and give ourselves a pat on the back.

Vmorrison do you think Champix makes you want to eat more than you would normally do so? I'm finishing my 2nd month on it (still not smoking) and I'm thinking of not doing the 3rd month. I think I will be ok because the last time I quit alone I only started a year later because I put on a few kilos it was silly of me.

I am really proud of myself. 9 weeks no smoking, 8 days left of the 3 month course. This month has been the worst with the side effects. I cannot wait to get off the pills but it has been so worth the suffering. I will do my very best never to go back to smoking only because I wouldn't want to take these pills again. I can also breathe properly it feels great!! I persuaded a friend of mine to go on to Champix she is doing well not even half way there. Seems like this is the only way to quit!

Champix should be illegal. The serious side effects didnt hit me until I stopped taking them. My life has been utter crap since the day I started them. My kids are lucky they still have a mother. I wouldnt tell anyone to persist with them. If you dont feel right stop them immediately.

Mama I have just been to the doctor a few days ago. I finished the 3 month course all of a sudden my blood pressure sky high ok im stressed but still. The worst part of it is that doctor said its crap no side effects nothing. I totally agree with you. It should be illegal and I wish the authorities in New zealand and Australia would look into it. What side effects have you suffered?
