holding off

yesterday i had 6 smokes and today i am on target for the same amount if i keep this up it should help me on my quit day which starts in aweek and a half my wife who is my supporter helps my by saying do you need to have that smoke just now why not hold off for 5or 10 minutes and i hold off so now when i want to smoke i hold off for half an half ....i know it is going to be hard but i have to give them away for good i hope people read this and try to hold out for a couple more minutes before lighting up

When the craving hits - drink water or eat cheese, I could never smoke if I had cheese. Avoid the stuff that triggers the need to smoke like coffee. If its possible keep your hands busy when you feel the craving, a big portion of the need is habit. I stopped on Champix and everything that I went through for the 3 months was absolutely worth it! I was a 20+ a day smoker for +- 30yrs. Good luck!! I promise that all the effort is totally worth it!

thank you MIX for the support I try to avoid the triggers and I think I am doing OK the real test comes in 9 days when I go cold turkey.i too was a 20 plus a day smoker now im down to 10 a day hoping that will help later. thank you once again

Thanks Mix!! It's great to read your story. I'm on day 4 of champix and have gone from 20+ cigarettes a day to 10 - and half of those were lit then tossed. The "habit" certainly has a tough as hold as the nicotine itself! I'm staying positive and I'm working towards my smoke free date I've set for next week :-)

I can only suggest if cold turkey doesn't work, look at other alternatives. I was 40 a day for 40 years. Champix, and patches and I'm on day 10 for the first real attempt at giving up and I'm doing it pretty easily. Having said that, I know in my own mind I want to give up and I'm tired of them so it's a big incentive.

I give huge credit to all of you who are trying to do this cold turkey without the benefit of any aids! I have tried to do that many times myself but I found I was just miserable and all I ever thought about was when I could sneak a smoke - cheating myself only of course! Anyway after 35 years of smoking I knew I had to do it so I went on champix and wow - it makes it so much easier. I am on day 16 smoke free and still not suffering at all. The champix is a bit tricky must take it with food or I feel nauseous but it gives me the strength I didn't have. eagleman congrats on your strength to date keep up the great work and don't be afraid to use aids if u need them. All the best!
