Champix! Horrible

I had spoken to many doctors and researched each product that I was looking to take. Every where I looked I seemed to be directed to Champix. There is a Doctor who I spoke to and he only sold me what I found out he was sponsored by. It was Champix. Doctor Colin Mendolsohn told 3 different people I know the same thing..... I then researched it and found that thousands of people have had adverse reactions. Suicide, Rage and strange and very scary dreams. If you read pfizer's 400 page disclaimer you would never touch it. How are Doctors sponsored to only direct you to buy 1 drug.

Have a look at this Doctor and dont get fooled into taking something you shouldnt. Becareful and Research. How does the same drug suit everyone. 1 size doesnt fit all. He should be investigated by the authoorities and so should  Smoker's Clinic and AASCP. Look at the sponsors. GSK and Pfizer.

Good Luck out there!

I am sorry to hear you are feeling so frustrated, yes taking any prescription drug can be a bit scary but I also think it's a very individual choice, we all must do what works for us. Have you tried champix? After 35 years of smoking and too many attempts to quit than I can count, I went on champix and am proud to say I am 3 weeks today smoke free. You are right, there can be side effects ( if you read the warnings on any medication it's enough to scare you off it for sure!) but my side effects have been manageable. I figured out pretty quickly that if I took the pills with a meal they no longer made me queasy. As for the dreaming, you dream in techni-color for sure but only if you take the pill close to bed time and the dreams are not scary at all, actually pretty funny and you remember them in the morning. But since I started taking the evening pill with dinner it really doesn't affect my dreams anymore. So like I said, different things work for different people and I guess you won't know unless you decide to try it, but there are lots of other options if you need help and don't want to use champix. Just to add, my husband and best friend are going the champix route as well and we are all doing great! Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best! Everyone on this site is very supportive so we are here if you need to vent! :)

Thanks I am 5 months smoke free now due to my wife calling Dr Amadeo from Quit for Good. Best money ever spent. 25days and I was off them within 2 days.

The reason for venting is due to one of my mates who tried to hurt himself and that was the only thing they can relate it too! my hope is that Dr's start using their brain and government starts controlling the big companies who dont give proper warnings and Dr's who profit from these drugs. Champix is an Anti-depressant. Thanks Kam and everyone for being there! this is a fantastic site! Im hooked on this now! hahaha

I am so sorry to hear about ýour friend. But before taking any drugs, as you or I and many others have done, should find out about possible side effects. Sometimes doctors are a bit slow but they are human and do make mistakes. Unfortunately in your friends case it had to be self harming. Very lucky your friend is okay, stupid doctor indeed. It could of been a life ending mistake.

All that aside well done to you :-)- if you ever need to talk just post on here and we are all here to support and listen. Anger will not get anyone anywhere as what is done us done ..

I'm on champix, the side effects where horrid - but apparently in Australia the doctor's can't prescribe champix unless they give you more info and you have to register with council ..Yesss rhis site is addictive haha. :-) have a gr8 day and all the best my friend.

Hi FrustratedSmoker

Sorry about your friend, its truly sad that it happened. I'm 339 days smoke free due to Champix and I am eternally grateful. I was hit with a bunch of the side effects but managed the full 3 month course.

As far as I know and the research I have done people that have any mental disorder [bipolar etc] were warned not to use Champix. If a person has an underlying disorder that they're not aware of Champix tends to bring it to the surface. My Dr gave me a prescription and didn't inform me of anything - I did all the research myself. I think its every persons responsibility to read what labels, info packs etc stipulates - lol - my Champix stayed on my kitchen counter for n month before I decided to start taking it.

I really hope that you friend is ok.
