No smokes for 90 days

Well after 30 years and countless thousands of wasted dollars I will never buy another packet of smokes. I have tried every method apart from Champix or similar, I have used patches, gum, lozenge, spray, blah blah blah, nothing worked for me. I have discovered after such a long time the habit more so than the nicotine is why I smoked, the fear of not knowing what to do with myself when I usually had a smoke, after meal, waking up, break at work etc etc, the usual triggers were all there. I needed to replace the habit with something else.

A friend was using electronic vaporizers (commonly e-cig), he lent me a spare he had and some nicotine e-juice and instantly I knew this would work for me. I researched heaps to try and find out if I was replacing one evil with something even worse, as bad or better. I still do not know for sure if what I am doing now is better or worse long term. Research from all corners of the globe is currently being carried out, some have published the results, some have used fear and crappy headlines to discourage the use of e-cigs, the suppliers promote as a healthier alternative naturally, make up your own mind.

Generally to date my research shows it to be a lesser evil than smokes, from what I can gather, if you are considering this option research it for yourself, if you go ahead seek out a quality product, do not buy the cheap cigarette look a likes they are rubbish in my opinion.

My side effects -

Positive - increased lung capacity, no cough, no wheezing, smell and taste has improved out of site, sleeping all night not waking up for a smoke in the middle of the night, skin clear, eyes clear, increased energy and huge cash savings.

Negative - initially some minor mouth ulcers ( found the cause, acidic flavours ), dry mouth ( caused by one of the products used, tried a different blend fixed), unsure if safe - badly need some proper unbiased research to inform the thousands of vapour users if ok or simply as bad or worse.

I initially purchased flavour e juice from O/S, with nicotine at a high level, (You can not buy nicotine juice in Australia, it must be imported from USA) have since reduced this to half of what I started on and continuing to reduce the nicotine content, within next 3 to 6 months will be on very low hopefully zero nicotine, then I just need to kick the habit of having something in my hand.

I treat the e-cig same as smoking, only outside, not in car, and only during a break at work, plain and simple this has worked for me, I still get urges to have a smoke every time I smell one, I just have a drag on mine and within a minute craving is gone - every time.

So that’s my story so far, I hope quality research by the medical authority is carried out in this country rather than a blanket ban due to not understanding this option to help people quit. In summary, do your own research, don’t buy rubbish, invest 1 weeks worth of cigarette cost into quality products. I am not a supplier, importer or associated in any way with any e-cig company, just a happy no smoker. I understand I have merely substituted one for another, but the other makes me feel way better and costs way less. Good luck all no matter how you chose to Quit it is worth it, I know 100% I will never buy or smoke another cigarette.

Mate I smoked for 53 years and in a couple of weeks it will be 2 years without any smokes.

If you're not pushing e-cigs like I think you are and are just a user, then I feel sorry for you. The cigarette companies are the biggest pushers of e-cigs so they are still wrecking your health and still making you pay for it.

Bill44, thanks for reply, firstly love the support shown just what this site is about good on you. Congrats on giving up after 53 years well done, I hope you did it cold turkey and did not use one of the huge drug companies, I am pretty sure they are only in it to help us and have genuine concern for our health, not in it for the money at all – this is sarcasm by the way. You show typical negative attitude and complete lack of understanding of e-cig, your comments are uninformed and ignorant, how dare you accuse me of lying about my association with this product. Rather than slam something you have no understanding of, have a look, become informed and do what you feel is best for you.

Champix, personally I wont touch it, I know to many people who have had minor and severe side effects, review this site as well, many dont many do, I really don’t think it is for me, congrats to those who have used it and succeeded. Seek out info on these very strong drugs and dig deep the story is quite scary.

I am happy in my choice of quit method, it may be a long road and may be wrong, all I know is it works for me.

Grantxx congrats on your accomplishment! I just quit eight days ago using champix and it's working great for me - so happy to say! My husband, who smoked for 40 years switched to ecig a year ago and hasn't had a smoke since. I am so proud of him! He too is no longer coughing and actually goes to the gym and works out, something he could never do before! So if your breathing is clear, you feel great and have renewed energy then I'm pretty sure that means that ecigs are better for you! He does hope that one day he will be off of the ecigs but his Dr. Told hime they are a 100 times better than regular cigarettes! So be proud of yourself and do what works for you!

Well still going well, no smokes at all, still get cravings, have halved the nicotine content of my e-cig, so is a lower nicotine content than patches and still works well, some days are hard but determined to never buy smokes again. Thanks for the support
