Champix day 6

Well I've just finished day 6 of the Champix tablets, one more day on the 0.5 mg ones then i'm on to week 2 with my quit day approaching in 3 days, I can't say I've cut down I think I'm smoking out of sheer habit and ritual now (after meals, mornig coffee, break times, driving etc) as they are starting to taste strange and not very enjoyable.. does anyone know if this will intesify as the dosage is amped up? I've smoked a pack of day for 25 years and really never seriously tried to give them up before. I'm not getting any of the side effects that I've read about thus far.. and am starting to get a bit nervous as I feel I'm smoking out of pure boredom now and wondering how I'm going to cope in 3 days time.

Hi Warden
303 days smoke free due to Champix! I was hit with the book of side effects but I did hang in and stopped. The strange taste does get worse as your dose increases. I only set a quit date in the 3rd week - so do what you feel comfortable with. Replace your hand habit with drinking water or nibbling on cheese - I found it helps to curb the cravings. I was a pack a day smoker for +-30yrs. Do your full 3 months course on Champix and just get through the 1st month after that it gets easier. If you can talking up some form of exercise - it helped me to keep the weight down. I have 62 days to go then Im a year smoke free! The only thing I do regret is that I didn't stop years ago.
You really do discover a whole new world of taste and smell.
Hang in there and don't think too much of how your going to cope - just take it in your stride or get a string of wooden beads to keep your hands busy.
Good Luck

Champix, from what I gather is a very strong deterant. You may wish to smoke less as time goes on. But if you are getting few side effects, take advantage of this and give quitting your best shot. You might like to practise a smoke free day.

I quit on Champix, I think the cigarettes taste foul because they are and you're not getting the nic kick to mask it. I was a pack a day smoker (or more) for about 25 years (started at 15), and I was surprised how easy it was for me to quit, no doubt because of the Champix. Like you I have had no negative side effects except for being tired the first week. Smile when you put out your last one, it'll taste like crap anyway. Good Luck.

Its day 9 for me on Champix and the side affects only hit me on the second week where you change to the 1mg ones.
If it does happen, drink lots of water and that seems to ease things up a little as well as winegums :)

It's day 6 for me today and I am surprised by a huge decrease in cravings and also the ones I have smoked are tasting a little weird. I have smoked off and on since age 14 and am now 50!! Haven't had a cigarette free day for 9 years. I am glad I joined up here today - I can already feel the benefit and support. x

I'm on my fourth day without a cigarette! still no side effects from the pills (I guess I'm one of the lucky one's) Cravings come and go but I know they will taste like absolute crap if I give in, that little reminder is working for me.
