Never give up giving up

A little bit about me first. I first started smoking at age 16 and smoked for the next 29 years. During that time I have tried to stop on more occasions than I care to think about. 100s of times. One thing that never made sense to me was patches, nicorete gum, and the like. If you are thinking of giving up then GIVE UP. Don't give up part time. It's like an alcoholic who allows themselves to drink just beer (But I'll give up spirits) Makes no sense. Another tip that assisted me in giving up is the day I stopped (Now approaching 6 months) was the day I started excersisng. 5km walks for 3 weeks every day. I now run 25 - 30km a week and am in training for my first 10km run at Gold Coast in July. I am 45 years of age and I feel more fit and motivated than I've ever felt before. It can be done people. Good luck and never give up giving up

Yes Tinman it can be done, and good on you for doing so,but you left out one vital word "some". Some people can walk away from cigs, others need to break the physical habit of smoking before they attack the addiction, and while it may not make much sense to you I can assure you that without the patches I would not have quit after 53 years and several serious attempts to give up. Today is 653 days clean.

Point taken bill. I was just trying convey my experience to others and encourage them to give this filthy habit away. Congrats on your achievement.

Well done Tinman, I agree exercise is a real key, it helps immensely to lift your mood and it gives you a good distraction. Good luck with your 10km run, what an achievement after 29 years of smoking.
