Where does this stupid thought come from? Out of the blue....I'd love a cigarette. A whole month since I've had one and this idea gets stuck in my head! Not about to cave in, but wondering how others deal with silly intrusive thoughts about smoking.

They're going to happen Dottily - someone posted not so long ago that the thought came out of the blue and took them by surprise. It's really down to you how you think the best way to deal with it is as we're all different. If you can - come on here and read a few stories - you're definitely not on your own! Remember why you're doing this and remind yourself you can be just as strong and willful as the cravings except you can win and they can't!

Reading other peoples comments is really helpful to me. If you've ever quit before, which I have many times, remember how crap that cave in cigarette tastes and how bad you feel afterwards.

The thought will go, a whole month snot smoking, that is really such a huge achievement.Congratulations

When you least expect it.....bam it hits you. It happened to me just the other day.....I went....now for a smoke.....hang on.....I don't smoke anymore.....boy where did that come from? I must of been around 150 days of not smoking, but it just goes to show that the thought creeps into your mind from time to time. What we have to do is be strong and not cave in. I am at 160 days today and feel excellent.

Thanks all. Just writing down about the thought helped get it out of my head! I've lost count of how many times I've automatically reached into the pocket of my handbag, where my smokes used to be, and been surprised for a second to find Nicabate and sugar free gum.

I'm on day 422 and the urge still sneaks up and hits now and then, it's quick and brief but it is strong for about 2 seconds. Not often, down to about once a month now, good for a laugh.

How wonderful to be able to laugh about the urge! I want to be at that point. I'm not going to weaken, I hope, I don't think I've got the courage to go through the crappy days again. I'm longing for the time when I see myself as a non smoker, or an ex smoker, rather than a smoker who hasn't smoked for a month. Thank you for the supportive responses, it makes such a difference to this journey to know that other people have faced the same things and gotten through them!
