Day 1

Posted in Quit experiences
schedule 26 Aug 2013

I am currently on Champix, its helping so much! But today was D Day. I woke up this morning & had 3.5 smokes left. I didnt smoke them, i ripped them up into tiny little pieces so i wouldnt be temped to get them out of the bin later; sad really. All day i cleaned so i wouldnt get the urge to have a cigarette. Tonight i feel seriously crook. I know its a side effect of Champix, but has never happened before. Hopefully will get better. I even tested myself and sat around smokers - didnt even get a craving. I can do this because i cant afford the smoke prices!

Wish me luck people. & any tips muchly appreciated :)

Hi MgahEather, well done on deciding to quit, you are doing well and have the right attitude, it can be literally a fight at the beginning stages. I was also on the champix, yes they can make you feel a little off. They are amazing very effective to quit smoking and I believe if I did not take them I'd be back smoking. Take it easy and drink loads of water and always take tablet with food.Eat plenty of fruit and veg, get out and about walking you will notice the difference in your breathing, this is a important motivator, it means your body is healing. Treat yourself to something anything,a gift, just to mark it, remember this is a positive choice for you. Always post here when you have a question or a concern, or just want a distraction from a craving. This is one hour, one day at a time, stay strong we are all behind you. I am 3months quit and it was hard at times, but I have no regrets health wise I feel amazing, the difference in your skin teeth, hair nails, a transformation. Good luck and keep posting .

converse, you can go without one for hours & then have the nastiest craving - its like a labour pain wandering if your going to get through it. Distracting yourself has been my method & it seems to working like a treat :) Thank you for your kind words.

Good work - you're on the path now. Distraction is a great method - it works for me. Don't test yourself too soon - just take one day at a time - the tests will come on their own!

The hardest part I think is making the choice of when to quit, you have done this so now be proud as you did it. Don't listen to the triggers in your mind trying to trick you into smoking as they pop up at the strangest times. Be strong and do something else to deflect it. Be positive and keep on posting as there is someone always here to answer you.

You do still do get cravings on champix in the first couple of days but they go away

Then you will find that they are mostly habit cravings as your brain still remembers you use to be a smoker.

Push on I am on day 10 of not smoking with champix and it is becoming easier everyday to remain a non smoker.

As for the nausea take them with food and that shouldn't happen.

Stay strong and you will be proud of yourself for doing so as will every one else on this site

Champix rocks and the nausea settles. It's totally worth it. I'm day 29 and I was one of those hopeless cases.

All the best mate.. As Converse said eat well before or soon after Champix.. Dont keep yourself hungry when you take Champix..

Reward your body/mind for not smoking.. may be eat many times a day or eat sweet stuff(ice creams etc etc).. Dont worry about the weight gain.. you can lose it later.. The extra appetite when you quit smoking dies down after 2-3 months..

I crossed 75 days and saved around $750.. lol...

Read my story at this link hope it helps:
