I was sick taking this stuff

I wanted to stop smoking but was finding it hard to do so....I gave up smoking for 14 years but the new job i have i took it back up and have been smoking now for about 3 years. I was told by my doctor that to give up smoking cos i have 2 enlarged lungs.....so i went on these champix everyone was raving on about well i think they did more harm to me than good. You see i have high blood pressure and taken these pills made it worse for me....the chemist bloke said i could smoke while taking the pills but on the 10 day if i wanted a smoke, smoke the whole thing and you would be that sick you wont smoke again....they were good i admit but you CANT SMOKE WHILE ON THEM......because they make you sick......headaches and sick in the stomach.....so before the 10th day i ended up really sick with headache that you could not imagin.....so my doctor and the chemist bloke said to stop taking them untill my headache goes so i did......after 2 weeks i started again and with in a week it happen again but this time i ended up in hospital....as they thought i was having a stroke.......not real good so i dont know how some of you can say they are great when i ended up in hospital.....now i throw them away and never will touch them again and i have told my friends to never try them because they are dangeous......i have now gone cold turkey and i dont feel sick at all stuff your champix they should be taking off the market.

Hi cass54 I was on the Champix too, yes the whole point is that when you smoke on them it makes you sick.. it turns you off them. I felt sick while smoking on day 8 onwards up and down, so I just stopped smoking on day 11 as that was my actual goal. I did a month with Champix, they gave me a great boot in the bum into non smoking experience. I do not regret taking them. side effects were mainly nausea, but really annoying taking hours to go and bloating miserable feeling.... my sleep was great though. I was emotional by the third week and coming up to two weeks smoke free.( I cannot attribute emotional to champix)that is not what I am saying but I guess I did not want to incase it was. I am not sure what happened exactly, I just did not want to take them, dreaded it like the plague... so I just weaned off them for two days and I am over 2 weeks or more off them.I was not scared that I'd relapse,or self doubting thoughts, because I went off champix, I just wanted to feel in control again, and just do my best, nothing more day by day.I am still smoke free,4 weeks now... the weight is piling on, but I do not care. I am running it off. Emotions I still feel with or without the champix , it is change that is it, and it is human to feel emotions, we are not robots. I am sorry you had a rough time on them , I do not blame you for going off them. Fair play to you going cold turkey, well done... I wish you every success, part of quitting is to feel in control, and at as much ease as you can, Champix is not for everybody ...it sounds like it cause you too much discomfort and was distracting you from you actual goal ...not smoking. but everybody is different. Good luck with the rest of your journey...

Thanks eric you were not in my shoes so you dont know how i was feeling and if you think i was over the top fine but people have to know what these pills are about and yes i know they are not for some as quite a few at work has taking them and have quit but i was the unlucky one my problem is if it was because of my blood pressure then there should be some warning....when both my doctor and the chemist said it was ok.....well mate it wasnt......Converse yes i know when you smoke on them you get sick i was down to 5 smokes a day then i got sick....but anyway all the best for everyone out there who is trying to give up.

maybe they are not for everyone. I have high blood pressure but on medication and the champix had no side effects for me other that they helped me give up smoking.
Obviously not everyone is the same but champix have helped many.

Hi Cass, I have never been a big fan of chemicals to aid in quitting, but some people do find it helpful.
Have you considered hypnotherapy and I believe some people have had good results from acupuncture treatment.
The main thing is that you still want to quit, and we all know that you can, so you will.

I agree with Eric but at first I was a bit like john_syd_west - I read the side effects and did a lot of reading of comments like your own here Cass. It scared me off them and I didn't consider Champix for two years. It's a shame because it is now working brilliantly for me - a genuine miracle pill and I am like a significantly younger, fitter man again. Ultimately, my advice is talk to your doctor, point out your concerns and get their opinion. People in chatrooms can be helpful, but they can also point you down an unhelpful path. Discuss your concerns with actual healthcare professionals.

hi cass, whatever works for you is your tool to stop smoking and stay stop smoking.Good luck on your road to recovery, keep posting and stay strong xx

Sorry it put made you sick my son can't take it. it bothers his stomach and messes with his head to much but I can take them fine..and they work so I'm sorry it could not work for you because I'm not sure I could have quit without the Champix..
