At 69 years of age, i gave up smoking after 35 years on my son's birthday 6th June 2010 by simply substituting a lolly in my mouth instead of a cigarette.

This was cold turkey and with ony 2 weeks to go for 3 years has been an exceptional journey. I was saving $90 a week and put $55 of that buying a system 9 lotto ticket each week.

Apart from winning $200's, $400's $800's in prizes during this period. I did win $25,500 which went towards a new Car. The balance of the savings went into jars and my wife and grandkids are now on an overseas trip for 3 weeks.

I admit i did go top shelf with the lollies have Chocalate Eclairs for the first 12 months and then came down to basic toffee until after 18 months i found it easy to give up lollies and now do not smoke or suck lollies.

i admit i keep the last pack of cigarettes on the kitchen cupboard with 11 cigarettes still in the pack and obviously very stale, but i am still clean, have no tempts to smoke and will keep that pack there to remind not me, but any friends that still smoke, and beside it a small jar of Chocolate Eclairs which i give them. Yes one of my friends is now 6 months into the same method

Cheers

It's never too late to quit! My husband and I quit just over 12 months ago. My husband is 72 and has smoked since he was 14. I am very proud of his effort and love the fact that I don't hear him 'weasing' any more during the night. So my congrats to you fungy4 and my husband has always wanted a boat - so on his 12 month anniversary of quitting he'd saved enough monet to buy a little tinny! win-win
