Champix Worked For Me

I am 57 years old and been smoking for over 40 years.  At the time of quitting I was smoking abut 20 per day.  I started using Champix on 1 April 2013 and quit on 8 April, one week before my son's 4th birthday.

The first 7 days on Champix I did not suffer any side effects, but I did not see any reduction in my desire to smoke.  On the afternoon of the day before my quit date, I finished a pack so decided to quit then.  That night I went to my favourite bar for a couple of drinks and had no urge to light up.

From then on it has been plain sailing.  I have not smoked since and only had slight urges that only last a few seconds.  About a week back I decided to cut back my Champix to one per day, in the morning.  I've not seen any change since doing that, so I plan to stay on half dosage for another 2 weeks and then stop taking the Champix.

The instructions state that for best long term results the course of Champix should be continued for 12 weeks.  I'm not convinced that this is entirely necessary, or is maybe an effort to sell more product.

Champix seems to have worked for me.  I am three and a half weeks stopped smoking and it has been really easy, unlike previous attempts when I have tried to quit cold turkey.

I take your point Eric, and I intended to take the full 12 week course.

But I feel really good only taking one tablet daily and I will continue with that for now. I think my brain has been adequately tricked as I have absolutely no urge to light up.

Be careful Greg, those nicotine sensors in your brain are cunning bastards, they'll hit you with urges when you least expect it, stay strong and if you resist the urge it will go away pretty quickly..................until next time. Persevere and you will win.
