Didn't have time to quit
I have smoked from 14 years of age and never seriously tried to give up smoking. That is now 37 years. I recently had to have an abdominal hernia operation. This was quiet extensive surgery as I had the same procedure twice before in the past 4 years. I decided that to give this surgery half a chance of being successful it didn't need me coughing and spluttering for 15 minutes every morning and stretching all the stitches and repair work that had been done inside me. I started on Champix two weeks before surgery , with me decreasing from30+ per day to around 4 or 5. I spent 4 days in hospital then a further two week's at home before going back to work on light duties. I asked my wife to make sure the pack I was smoking was gone from the house upon my return. Much to my delight and certainly my families it has now been 6 weeks on Thursday coming. I have had moments some of which were testing but I tell myself I am a non-smoker, I remind myself of the $6000 extra I will have this year and thoroughly enjoy getting out of bed without the coughing fit every morning. Back when I started smoking it was cool and socially accepted. Now that the truth is out it is neither of the above. Good luck to everyone trying to give up. I reckon if I can give them away anyone can.

Your story gives me great hope. Guess we've smoked around the same amount of time, and yes you are so right. It is neither cool or socially acceptable (as it used to be) Good luck and continue to be smoke free.

You can do it folks, I was a heavy smoker for 53 years and tomorrow night it will be 29 weeks without a smoke.
