Coughing up stuff?

Posted in Quit experiences

Just wondering if anyone started to cough up some pretty gross stuff after they quit smoking? I never coughed while smoking and now - 3 weeks in- I have been. Is this a common occurrence?

Livelonger, I guess every individual's body is different. Through my quit attempts, I have never cough up anh phelgm. It is upteenth quit attempt this time and is into 79 days but no phelm ever came out. Don't think about it too much. You just to concentrate on your quit, whatever you may experience, it is all for the better.

Live_longer, I am on smokefree day 8 after a pack a day for 40 years. From day 5 I have been coughing up sticky grunge. My research tells me this is not uncommon and in fact is a good sign as it means the little airsacs in the lungs are starting to work again and pump out tar and tobacco which has been accumulating. So enjoy the feeling of your lungs repairing themselves!

Live _longer, an update on my amateur research. If there is any sign of blood - fresh and red or old and black like coffee grounds - get to a Doctor asap as these are signs of emphysema or lung cancer.

Seems to be gone now, and thanks for all the comments. Good luck to everyone with their journey!
