I have smoked 30 a day unfiltered for 40 years. Went cold turkey a week ago. Days 3 and 4 were VERY hard but cravings much reduced since then. To help me I would like to know how you relapsed after 7 clean years. What was the trigger and do you have any tips on how to avoid this? I really want to stay off the weed.

yes i thought i had it beat i was holidaying in the mountains and thought just one pipe a day wouldnt hurt and one thing lead to another then i was smokeing again.

i am using the quit4good strips they seem to be working well so far and i have stoped using the patches.

i used my suffering when i went cold turkey to make myself more resolute never to go through it again.

i am going to do it this time day 12 here and feeling good i have been out on the drink and not at all tempted.

good luck i hope you can do it

Thank you for your reply. It helps me. I will guard against overconfidence. After a week cold turkey, my cravings are much reduced. Now I am coughing up grunge. I can actually see little dags of tobacco coming up. Am going to a friend's 50th tonight. This will be a test. Determined to pass.

Your advice about watching other smokers closely helped. It is not a good look. It is not cool. But I found the smell kindled cravings. I resisted because I am just so determined not to waste a tough week of cold turkey. Felt good next day. No nicotine hangover. And the feeling of coughing up 40 years of grunge is GREAT, even if my wife is making me sleep on the couch!
