How I Quit

Hi All

Just thought I would pass on my experiences in quitting smoking.  It has now been 12 months since I stopped.  I found after 45 years I spent around or over $45,000.  I am now saving about $70.00 per week which is going into things that I like to buy which I was unable to do before.  I tried patches, lozenges, gum, hypnotherapy, acupuncture which did not work.  Then I came across a book called “Easy Way To Stop Smoking” by Allen Carr.  It showed me that my addiction was not physical but mental.  Once this was established, the Doctor put me onto Champix which aided my ability to cease smoking.  I was on Champix for an approximate period of 12 weeks which did help to a certain point but it was my mental attitude that seemed to help me in more ways than one.  I no longer suffer the stigma of being a smoker and the consequences entailed.

I still do get cravings every now and then but I think of other things and eventually a few minutes later that craving has gone.  I found that if one is determined to give up smoking then one will succeed.  Also having people around you that care and help you is a God send.

I am always available if anyone would like to contact me for more information or just a general talk as it does help talking to others in the same situation.  I also suffer with depression which did not help my situation in giving up at all, but I managed to keep on going.  It is hard but it is worth it in the end.

Thank you to those who responded to my story. All of you please keep on going as it is worth it in the long run. I do feel alot better, healthier and more energy. My only wish is that I should have done it earlier. Good luck to you all who are trying to quit. It is hard but stick to it as you will win in the end.
