My Champix Experience

Hi all,
Im a 31 year old male and I have been a 40 a day smoker for about 17 years and 2 days ago I had my last cigarette. I had tried giving up cold turkey a couple of times in the past without success and it was mainly due to not being 100% commited. This time around I knew I was totally commited but wouldn't be able to do it cold turkey so I took a different approach, I saw my doctor and got a prescription for Champix.
I was told to set a quit date in the second week of the prescription and keep smoking as normal to that date. I did what the doc said but getting close to it I knew it wasn't the right time to stop so kept on smoking while taking the Champix. When I got to the start of my 4th week taking Champix I noticed that I had cut down to 10 cigarettes a day without knowing it and 5 days into the 4th week I was down to 3 for the day. I didn't suffer any cravings on that day so decided that was it, time to give this filthy habit away and threw my last few smokes in the bin.
It has now been 2 days so far and I have not suffered a craving or withdrawral which tells me that the Champix is doing its job for me. I haven't suffered any side effects from the drug except for one morning I took a tablet on an empty stomach and got a gut ache from it.
Champix has been great for me and has done what it is supposed to do, I just had to change the approach so it would work for me. I have now proven to myself that I don't need or even want a cigarette. I will continue to take it for the next 2 months so I finish the course to make sure i am totally free of the nicotine grip.
Cheers
Hey bluenaite that's fantastic. Doesn't matter how you do it as long as you do it. Keep your guard up though. Good luck and stay strong.

Bluenaite, great! you know the saying? if ain't broke, don't fix it. It sounds like a huge success for you so keep going buddy.

Great work Blue, I haven't had a cig for 110 days and I started on Champix, it doesn't really matter which way you do it, but the fact that your doing it.....good on you, and you'll find even when you finish the Champix you have the willpower to continue on your own. Congratulations

Hi everyone, I also am on champix and this is my 3rd day of no smoking. I still feel like one now and then but really fight the urge to have one. I have given up with champix twice before and it really works. The other times I got to about 5 mths and thought that I could just have a puff here and there with a drink. How wrong I was !!! one puff lead to one smoke and then another and then came the packet. I am really determined this time to stay off them. Thanks for all of your stories, its great to read them

I have now been cigarette free for 31 days. Have been a regular smoker for about 50 years with a three year break which I thought was going to be forever! Stupid me thought one wouldn't hurt!!!! So here I am determined to live the rest of my life without even one more puff.
