Didn't smoke at all until early twenties when my boss in PNG used to give me a couple of  cigarettes a day 'for my nerves' (the usual 1960's mantra)(he died of heart attack at age 36) which I continued back in Sydney.   Gradually it became more each day until up to a pack, but was going to quit when they got to $1.

Smoked for a total of about 35 years, twice going cold turkey and lasting a year, but never really losing the craving and often buying one from a stranger after eating in a restaurant.   About nine years ago was getting a prescription filled and on the spur of the moment responded to ad in pharmacy and asked the chemist if the patches worked.   I purchased some and finished the whole series.  Since first patch haven't had a cigarette in my mouth, can be around people smoking and have no cravings.

Couldn't believe how much money I suddenly had and have had several three month trips overseas since quitting.  Also, hadn't realised how much stress I'd been under worrying about being in situations where I couldn't have a smoke, and as the rules tightened the stress became worse.

Try the patches, put up with the vivid dreams (I could have written movie scripts!), and enjoy spending all the newfound wealth you'll have.

Congratulations - that's amazing that you were able to quit after so long....i have tried patches before (unsuccessfully) and after reading your story I'm ready to try again.

Well done.
